If you and your family are thinking about building a new home, it is time to start looking for ideas and inspiration everywhere you turn. But where should you really begin?

Some of the most important questions include the following: What type of home best first your family’s style? How big should your home be? What location is best? How will you decorate your home?

There’s no doubt that one of the most thrilling aspects of building a new home is the ability to design it precisely the way that you want. That being said, it can be hard to come up with all of the best ideas on your own. That’s why knowing where to look for inspiration is so important. So, here are some of the best ways to find inspiration for your future home.

Blogs, Pinterest and Instagram

This might seem corny, but why not take advantage of the fact that you basically have the world at your fingertips? Get online and figure out some of the most popular blogs and profiles that feature lots of different types of styles and homes. That being said, it is important to keep in mind that many of these shots are professionally done and will be difficult – if not impossible – to replicate give the realities of your life and home budget.

Visit home shows

There are few better ways to get an idea of how your future home could actually come together than visiting a home show or Builder Showcase in Kirkland, WA. At any showcase, you will be able to see loads of designs and materials, speak with builders and contractors, and hopefully get a great idea of how they could help you on your journey to building your very own dream home.

If you are heading to a builder showcase, the important thing to remember is to go with both an open mind and to go prepared with questions that you want to ask any suppliers or contractors that are there showing off their stuff!

Get out of your current neighborhood

It is human nature to be heavenly impacted by the things we see and do every single day. For that reason, it is often a great idea to get out of your current town or city and explore the designs that populate other parts of the country (or even world if you can swing it)!

One of the best ways to make style choices is to visit open houses and see what other home builders are doing with their dream houses. It is especially useful if you do not plan on building a home in the area that you currently live in. While you do have the right to build whatever kind of home you want to, there is certain value to building a home that does fit in a given area. The reason why is because a home that is too unique or too big relative to its surroundings can dramatically hurt its value on the open market, should you ever decide to sell.
