What Is the Right Way to Lay the Tiles?

One might find it an easy task to lay tiles on the floor but only a true professional knows what a cumbersome process it is to flawlessly fix the tiles. It is a skill that needs to be mastered. It is a tough job for a DIYer but relatively easier for a veteran and a seasoned tile installer. Let us see how the entire process of tiling takes place:

Choosing the material

The material of the tile needs to be chosen based on the purpose. Areas like kitchen, bathroom, flooring and exteriors have different tiles. You can choose from ceramics, porcelain, mosaic, marble, cement or others. Your tile choice shouldn’t just match your personality but it should be durable enough to last long. The tiles come in various styles like matte, graphic, glossy, wood or sugar finish.

Cutting the tiles

Once the tiles are chosen, the next step involves cutting them. To cut it effectively and not waste it, you need to choose the best tile saw. The best ones normally are the snap or rail manual cutters, handheld wet tile saws, tabletop wet tile saws or the overhead motor wet tile saws. You also need various accessories with these saws to cut the tiles precisely.

Preparing the surface

Tiles can be laid on multiple subfloors. If it is a concrete overlay, all the cracks are repaired. If the subfloor is made of ply, weaker areas are fixed. If the subfloor is having tiles, it is either removed or a thin-set is applied to it.

Mixing the adhesive

To get the job done correctly, you need to have a reliable adhesive or a mortar mixer. There are multiple attachments with them based on the paddle attachments. According to the instructions, add water and make it thick. Let the adhesive set and mix it again before using it. Check for stiffness.

Applying the mortar

It is important to mix the mortar properly to avoid slumping so that it can spread well on the subfloor with a trowel. This material is made of cement, sand or lime and can absorb a lot of water. They are highly porous.

Laying the tile

After having all the materials ready with you, it is now time to lay them off finally. Research about the space and calculate the laying to prevent issues in future.
