How Do You Style A Small Bathroom?
Styling a small bathroom can be tricky, especially when you’re working with limited space. Dark walls typically elicit a certain rustic, elegance, and richness. Darker bathrooms make a bold and dramatic aesthetic that definitely makes a strong statement, no matter the size. While darker shades are gorgeous and timeless, there are still a few things to keep in mind when utilizing them in smaller bathrooms.
If you’re working with light-coloured walls and floor tiles like red or blue, keep the contrast mild and avoid too many bright or earthy colours. Choose an attractive bathroom suite with plenty of natural wood and stone detail including complimentary textured wallpaper and fixtures. Opt for neutral colours like ivory, beige, chocolate browns, or soft blacks.
In smaller bathrooms where natural light is non-existent, accent lighting is your best friend. You can install low profile floor lamps or track lighting to illuminate the walls and the shower stall. Floor lamps can help solve two problems at once. Not only do they illuminate the area, but they also cast a soft glow onto the floor. Track lighting can be installed between two opposite walls and strategically placed in key areas such as above the mirror or beside the tub. A dimmer light setting can create the illusion of more space and depth in the bathroom.
Another useful technique for maximizing space is to paint one wall in a dramatic colour and feature wall. This works especially well if the feature wall is a built in feature, like a pedestal sink, vanity countertop, or open shelf. By painting one wall a bold colour, the other walls can be painted in a more neutral tone to blend in with the feature wall.
